    Who is Entitled to Free Legal Aid?

    The sections of the society as enlisted under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act are entitled for free legal services, they are:
    A member of Schedule Caste/Tribe.
    A victim of trafficking in human being or “beggar”.
    A woman or a child.
    A mentally ill or otherwise disabled person.
    A victim of mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood, drought, earthquake or industrial disaster.
    An industrial workman.
    A person in custody.
    A person having an annual income not exceeding Rs. 3,00,000/-.
    Senior Citizens, Transgenders, people infected with/or directly affected by HIV/AIDS.

    Nature of Free Legal Aid Services:
    Free legal services entail the provision of free legal aid in civil and criminal matters for those poor and marginalized people who cannot afford the services of a lawyer. This includes representation by an Advocate, preparation of pleadings, drafting of legal documents, and legal advice.
